What do we need to improve if the compact laser pod lights are installed onto drone

Led pod lights can shine very far away with focused beam, which are useful for drone to detect and see the long distance at night or in foggy weather.

However, the compact led pod lights that are made of aluminum housings are too heavy to fly on drone if no weight and balance optimization. In order to extend flight time and maneuverability, try to mount the led pod lights as close as possible in order for the center of gravity of the drone. In doing so, the led pod lights can be mounted symmetrically to avoid uneven stress on the motors and keep the drone fly on the level.

In order to reduce the weight of stainless steel mounting hardware, custom-made 3D-printed mounting hardware made from TPU are suggested to minimize the frontal area and turbulence. Position the led pod lights and wiring to be as streamlined as possible. Or the high profile of the sticking out installation might create drag and force the motors to draw more power and low the flying speed.

During the installation, check and ensure that mounted led pod lights do not interfere with propeller arc or block the line of sight for visual positioning sensors, GPS or FPV camera view. Ensure to insulate any exposed wiring or soldered connections with heat shrink,electrical tape or conformal coating in order to avoid short-circuit against carbon-fiber frame.

It is much important to power on the led pod lights without compromising the drone systems. Basically, our led pod lights can work from 12V to 30V DC directly from main battery voltage. If improved high lumen 80w led pod lights are adopted, it is often recommended to solder the power leads directly to the main battery input pads on the flight stack. So the led pods lights do not overload the lower power components of flight controller. If possible, we suggest wiring the led pod lights through AUX channel on your radio and allow you to turn them on and off during the high flight. This can help save the power consumption on battery if the illumination of led pod lights are needed sometimes.
